CB12 – Minty fresh breath…

I was recently sent some CB12 products to test out which is great as I have always been a little reluctant to try the products due to them being slightly more expensive that other mouthwash brands.

I was sent two full size, two travel size and two packets of their chewing gum to test out.

CB12 Mouth Rinse

This comes in two flavours, mild and mint menthol.

Personally I prefer the mint menthol as I feel that it has a more refreshing taste. Both are slightly different to other mouthwashes in that they leave a fairly dry / bitty  texture in your mouth and with the mild it is much more noticeable whereas the mint menthol leaves a much fresher feeling.

It is marketed as giving your fresh breath for 12 hours and whilst I don’t think that is the case it certainly leaves your mouth feeling much fresher for longer than other brands. When using on a night I definitely agree that my mouth is much fresher in a morning.

250ml retails for £14.59 at Boots

CB12 Boost

I’m a huge fan of gum and I always keep a tub of it in my car so this was the product I was most looking to try out, especially during the day after eating foods that can linger. The gum is like a dual candy. It is mint like on one side and gum on the other which when biting into breaks the mint, unleashes the freshness but unfortunately the mint just kills the gum as anyone who has ever had gum and had a sweet at the same time will know (surely everyone has done that?!).

The flavour was fantastic and immediately refreshed my breath but if I chewed for too long that feeling of freshness just went which was unfortunate.

I definitely wouldn’t buy these, at £4.99 for 10 I think they are certainly overpriced for the typical gum consumer.

£4.99 for 10 from Boots.

I’m not quite sure these products are for me, well certainly not for the price. I’m lucky in that I don’t think I really suffer from bad breath issues as I have quite good dental hygiene and tend to stick to foods that don’t cause too much offence but I can appreciate people having a need for these. I’d certainly use the mouth rinse again as I do think it lasts longer than other brands but I think CB12 could do with some further product work on the CB12 Boost.

Ciate Caviar Manicure – Review

I know I’m late to the party but I finally got round to trying this manicure craze!

I have to say I’m not too impressed, I’m a bit of a neat freak when it comes to painting nails and I just felt that with the caviar that that wasn’t happening. Thankfully I picked The Ciate Caviar Manicure up on the front cover of Company Magazine, so paid nowhere near the RRP of £18! Just to add mine was a mini version so you would get many more applications from the full size.

From a distance I suppose it doesn’t look too bad, but no amount of care would ensure every single bit of the nail got covered with the caviar beads. I tried pouring the beads over whilst turning my nail from side to side. I tried pressing my nails into the pool of beads that had accumulated underneath my hands. Nothing , so I was left with certain areas uncovered which even pressing down didn’t fix. Maybe I would have been suited to another colour, the one I picked up was Cookies and Cream, but I’m generally a darker nail type of girl. So if I get the chance to use a darker shade at any point then I may feel completely differently.

I also did the Caviar manicure on my toes, which I actually think it is more suited to because you don’t get as close and personal and neither do others unless they have a foot fetish!

I had the Caviar on for a special occasion, but I just felt like I had messy nails. I couldn’t wait to take it off and it was removed within 48 hours of applying, unfortunately it left some damage to my nails where the beads had scratched the nail when being removed.

Would I caviar again?

Fingers no, toes yes… when I have time! But from my previous post about time, you will understand how that is just too precious to me.

Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Colour Review

Having had no luck whatsoever with salon manicures I have decided that sticking to home nail colour is the best (and cheapest) option.

I picked up the Maybelline Forever Strong Gel Nail Colour in Divine Wine within the 3 for 2 at Boots (Usual RRP £4.09)

I quickly applied the colour prior to having guests round so I didn’t make the most careful of applications. It was easy to do due to the curved flat brush to enable precision under pressure! However, the appearance and finish were great for an extremely quick application.

The nails feel like a salon gel manicure but without the thickness, which I think is one of my biggest issues. When the gel manicure is thick and I am hammering away on my keyboard I think it causes the polish to lift which then gets caught and huge chunks peel off! Not what you want after paying £20+

So has it lived up to it’s 7 day promise?

  • After a couple of days a small chips at the tip of the nail were evident but only upon close inspection – these may have been avoided had more time have been taken during application.
  • It seems to ‘scratch’. I think I must sleep with the back of my hand under my head and I always seem to be left with hair strand like imprints on painted nails – this happens with all brands though!
  • I did get a fairly large chip on one of the fingers but I would put this down to my activities during the week as opposed to general day to day wear – that particular nail was also pretty weak which is why I haven’t posted an after picture but as I said it was a rather rushed application.
  • Overall – I am much more impressed having this than paying 5x more for a salon manicure AND I’ll get a good few applications from this!
  • I shall definitely be wearing again!

Waterproof Eye Makeup Review

In advance of going on holiday and some would say being vain, I have been keen to try out some waterproof make up products.

I purchased Maybelline’s The Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara and Rimmel’s Exaggerate Eye Definer (both in black) and gave a little trial run whilst doing The Color Run (no pun intended).

Although I wasn’t actually getting wet during The Color Run, I wanted to test the products out against sweat and against rubbing.

Waterproof MakeupWaterproof Makeup1

Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara (RRP 7.19)

Maybelline Colossal MascaraEasy enough to apply, but I felt that I had to give it a good 3 or 4 coats to get anywhere near the type of coverage I usually achieve with most of my other normal mascaras. Perhaps this is down to the Waterproof formula.

You can see in the second picture the quality and definition of the lashes. After a few coats it really does have some impact and I was happy with the appearance of it. This picture is after a sweaty LBT session followed by an hour lifting weights.

The mascara stood up to getting pelted with powder and a few showers after that and has also withstood an LBT class, an hour doing weights, an hour doing cardio, time in the steam room and sauna and even walking home in this torrential downpour.

You really do need waterproof make up remover to get rid of this stuff! Seems to do what it says on the tin!

Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Definer (RRP £3.99)

Rimmel_Exaggerate_Waterproof_Eye_Definer_0_28g_1_1366733819I am usually a user of mineral powder to create a liner so going back to a pencil was a little strange – as you can see from my picture it isn’t a perfect line. I was in a rush too so all in all not a bad effort.

The pencil comes with a smudge tool on the opposite end which pulls out to reveal a sharpener.

The liner stood up to The Color Run, and an LBT and hour weight session. I didn’t wear for the hour of cardio followed by the steam room / Sauna as I was in a rush this morning. Although it has stood up to the downpour on the way home.generally just lasted the afternoon. My only concern is that if I rub my eye some of the liner seems to come off on my hand so I’m still a little cautious to just how truly waterproof it is. It washes off easily with soap and water – let’s hope it lasts in the pool!

The eye definer is available in a variety of colours – perfect if you want to liven your look up.

I shall report back after my holiday and temperatures of 40C!

Birthday Wishlist…

With my birthday in the not too distance future (it’s a big one) I thought I would create a little wish list of things I would like so friends and family know what to get me or what to contribute towards!

Unbelieveably most of my ‘wish’ items are fitness as opposed to fashion related! Something is seriously wrong with me!

So here we go…

Zaggora Hot Pants 2.0 Capri

I have wanted these for a good long while as would love to see if they really do live up to what they claim. Anything that makes me burn more calories whilst working out is a plus for me! Size S.

Shock Absorber Active

I’m not massive up top, but they do move about. I read that even an A cup bounces up to 4cm when doing exercise so keeping what I have in good shape is of utmost importance! I just love the bright colours! Hmmm not sure about sharing the size here 🙂

Proskins Galaxy

I am a major fan of Proskins after completing their #28DayChallenge. Not only did they make my skin amazing they were a key component in helping me reduce my measurements! I just love the Galaxy print – and for some reason I find that bright prints make me work much more effectively in a gym environment… its the only place I love colour! I’d also love a Black Matte pair for day to day wear! Size 8!

Nike Lady 8 Inch Filament Tight Running Shorts

I do not wear shorts at the gym, but I would like to eventually get to that point (with the help of slimming down and Fake Tan!) so these shorts look perfect, they also feature a back pocket which might just house my iPhone so I don’t have to resort to an arm band! Size S or 8/10.

Nike Lady Flirt Tank Top Vest

Just so I have something to match the shorts! This looks tight fitting enough, but loose enough round the waist to not have any embarrassing moments… I find you get them on the rowing machine! Size 10 (M).

Asics Lady Gel-DS Trainer 18 Running Shoes

I don’t have a clue when it comes to trainers! I just like them to look nice. The fact that these won ‘Best Shoe’ in the Runner’s World Personal Best Awards must count for something! Although I know I should wear a support shoe based on my foot arch / gait (and these come under that remit), which is why I tend to buy most of my trainers from SportsShoes.com I just rather liked the look of these and thought the purple would go rather nicely with the Nike products above! Size 6 please!

Adidas Womens Essentials Sports Bra by Stella McCartney

I know I have already listed a sports bra, but I am a major fan of wearing my Polar FT7 to work out, the problem is it relies on a chest strap to do the recordings, not really an issue but it would be nice to have one less piece of gear to wear. Having a sports bra with a built in chest strap is stuff of my dreams! Size S or 8/10!

Now on to some treat things!

Michael Kors Watch

I already own a bronze MK watch which I adore. It is the only watch that I have worn on a regular basis. There is a titanium one that I am coveting but I don’t think anyone is realistically gonna spend £600 on a watch for me. So this one will have to do! I love a big chunky watch as I like to feel there is a bit of weight behind it and that it is sturdy enough not to drop off. I also love how the watch face is a little different to other watches out there. There are however plenty of other alternatives I love in the MK range too, but this one just stands out! Alternatively I love the Thomas Sabo Rebel at Heart Skull Watch! Wrist size 16cm.

Religion Lynch Leather Jacket

I saw this in store recently on display, but was unable to try on as they keep them locked away! At £380 I can understand why! This jacket is absolutely gorgeous although only 15% leather, I just love the distressed look and the studded detailing… I can dream. Failing that I love absolutely anything by Religion from their accessories to their clothing, so anything by Religion would be very happily received!

Diavolina Floyd Wedges in Black

I have these in grey and I absolutely adore them. So comfy and stylish. They really are my most favourite boot purchase. However I would love some in black, but tracking down a size 6 is an absolute bloody nightmare! So if you come across but don’t plan to buy them, please just tell me!

Black Heeled Sandals

I have been after some nice strappy sandals that I can wear with black jeans or a dress for a long time but just can’t seem to find what I am looking for. I had spotted some on Zara (see my pinterest) but they no longer seem to be available. I do also like these on Zara and also these from Office are rather nice! But I’m open to suggestions. I am however crap in heels, which is why I tend to stick to wedges!

Protein Pow(d)er Cook Book

I’m a little obsessed with using Protein Powder to cook with and am forever trawling the web looking for the latest recipes. Having a cookbook to pull out of the cupboard would be amazing!

NIP+FAB Bust & Tums Kit

Well even with working hard in the gym a girl could use a little help! Alternatively (or additionally) the Fitness Kit!

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

I am a lover of anything Viktor & Rolf! Flowerbomb EDP is my signature perfume and I won’t wear anything else! So absolutely anything from the Flowerbomb range I would adore especially the Bomblicious Body Lotion!

Personal Training!

I’m not quite sure this is a treat, however I really would like my arse or rather my stomach whipping into shape. I do great in classes (I think) and I do alright on my own but would probably do better if I were getting shouted at!

Thomas Sabo Angel Wing Jewellery

I am a lover of all things Angel Wings from jewellery to clothing to artwork but these key pieces would go with the Thomas Sabo earrings I already own. Firstly the pendant and secondly the ring.

There are plenty of other things I would love but the above are my key items and how I am going to refrain from purchasing the majority myself I have absolutely no idea! I would in fact love a really decent digital camera but I have no idea where to even start! So recommendations please!

Illamasqua Make Up

After my makeover at Illamasqua the other month I am obsessed with their beauty range. I would love a pot of Hydra Veil, the Empower and Neutral Palette’s and absolutely any nail varnishes! In fact anything from the range will do!

Converse All Star Grey High Tops

I have some white All Star Ox that I have had a good few years and that I adore, but they are a nightmare to keep clean, especially when it does nothing but rain, so perhaps grey might be a better choice! Size 6.

Aside from that gift vouchers for high street stores or even spa days / treatments are very much appreciated!

FYI my birthday is 18th August and I shall be turning 30… Eeek!!!!

Rodial Brazilian Tan – Review

Rodial PackagingSo we can’t all have that perfect skin shade and we know that spending too much time in the sun is bad for our skin, so for most people the only option is fake it!!! Well it certainly is in my case! My skin is naturally very pale and can burn quite easily and more often than not I go red then back to white so I either make do with being pale or I fake it!

I rarely fake it, but last night I finally got round to trying the Rodial Brazilian Tan that I had picked up on the front of Elle Magazine! Yep I’ve had it almost a month!

So due to actually having smooth pins from wearing my Proskins for the best part of a month, this was the perfect opportunity for some no flake tanning!

Elle were offering the Rodial Brazilian Tan in three shades – Clear, Light and Dark. I opted for light as I am naturally very pale, so didn’t want to end up looking orange.

Rodial is a firm skincare favourite in the celeb world with the likes of Victoria Beckham and Claudia Schiffer swearing by the brand, so I was keen to find out what all the fuss was about. The brand, established in 1999, is the brainchild of Maria Hatzistefanis whose beginnings started in beauty journalism and who now runs the Rodial empire which also includes brands such as Nip+Fab and Nip+Man. You can find out the latest from Maria by following her on Twitter – @MrsRodial

First off… Initial Thoughts

The tan didn’t have any obvious fake tan smell… already a winner in my eyes! The colour straight out of the tube appeared to be a caramel hue… none of this usual horrible browny black colour that you tend to get from a lot of self tanners.

Rodial Gel

I applied the tan using a mitt. I get quite dry hands (I’m currently using Rodial GLAM BALM Hand for this) so even after washing a number of times I still end up with those tell-tale fake tan marks around my knuckles and between my fingers and I find when I use a mitt I don’t get that.

I started to apply the tan and as soon as you rub in the colour disappears… this scares me! When doing a fake tan yourself you really need to make sure you cover absolutely every little bit of your body and I was concerned that I had maybe not got certain area or in some cases went over them twice ‘just in case’. I have woken up with a few white patches this morning and some areas a little darker than others. These are minimal however and is down to the application – next time I will take even more care and I’m sure it will come out perfect! I did put it on midweek as a trial before using for something significant so I can cope with the little mess ups as I’m not going anywhere special, but like I said – nothing majorly obvious!

Sometimes fake tans can generate a smell whilst they are developing. Not in Rodial’s case! There was no need to shower immediately this morning so I have tried to top up the white areas to even out. I’ll be hitting the gym later so will shower after and then report on  the staying power!

Overall however, I am impressed with the shade it has generated, once I sort out the application I think this could quite possibly be my go to tan! Especially whilst it’s on offer and with the Elle discount (see underneath picture).

Rodial Skin Sample

Elle are currently offering a 20% discount off any products purchased from Rodial by entering ELLE20 at the checkout. Not only that but the tan has been reduced from £35 to £27 so a great time to grab a bargain!

Also if you subscribe to Elle by 3rd July they are also offering Rodial’s Skincare On The Go Kit worth £35

Edited to add:

I tried this again making sure to take more time and pay more attention to the application. I applied a methodical process to ensuring all areas were covered, once again using a mitt. I am pleased to report that my hands and arms came off rather well but this could be due to the fact that I have managed to obtain a little bit of colour due to the recent warm weather we have had, however my legs looked streaky! Which resulted in an emergency dash down to the supermarket to pick up some Rimmel Instant Tan to fill in the blanks! Review to follow!

Fab Fitness Haul

What started as the need to find a new gym bag that fits EVERYTHING in has turned into a bit of a shopping spree!  So I thought I would share with you some great bargains I have managed to pick up this week in my quest for an on going healthy and active lifestyle!

Fitness Haul

To start off, the gym bag I bought from American Apparel at ASOS (£20.50)- I have been eyeing this one up for a while but wasn’t quite sure just how big it was but it’s massive! I have had rucksacks and so on in the past but find that you struggle to fit a change of clothes, towel and toiletries into easily. Therefore I wanted something quite large but lightweight that I could just chuck everything into. I’m useless when it comes to compartments so it may as well all be in the same one.

Another item I have been on the look out for are some resistance bands so I thought I would pop into TK Maxx to see what they had to offer. Main reason being when I travel I tend to take mainly carry on luggage which means I am unable to take my gym kit with me, so I wanted something that I could easily pop in my case and do a hotel room workout. Introducing ’empower’ Total Body Toning System £7.99 (RRP $29.99). It includes an upper body power cord, a lower body power cord with padded ankle cuffs and a door strap along with a workout guide and the whole package takes up less room than a pair of trainers! This is a beginner / Intermediate kit which offers resistance up to 15lbs (6kg).

Total Body Toning

After picking up the above I was just about to walk away from the fitness section in TK Maxx when I saw the ’empower’ Cardio Core Fitness Hoop lurking at the back of the shelf and for £12.99 (retail $29.99) I had to grab it! I love the Power Hoop class that I do at the gym but with both myself and the husband having jobs that involve travelling and childcare to consider getting to a class isn’t always possible and with my 30th birthday only a couple of months away I need to do as much work on my core as possible. Although not as heavy as the Power Hoop, it will do for adhoc fitness at home. Perhaps if I was going long haul on business I could break this back down again and take with me if I didn’t have access to a gym as it doesn’t take up too much room.

Moving on to clothing. I am always on the lookout for a decent top for the gym, one that’s not too tight, but not too baggy but I just can’t seem to find one that is quite right. This top from MPG Sport was just £12.99 from TK Maxx and looked to be just what I was after. I thought I had bought a Small but upon getting home it turns out it’s XS. It fits ok so I’m not going to bother taking it back but hopefully in a few more weeks it will fit even better! MPG are currently offering 25% off your order if you like their page on Facebook!

After spotting the lovely Nic from Nics Nutrition picking up a pretty decent fitness kit haul at Primark, I decided to check it out. Unfortunately Primark in Huddersfield didn’t have a decent range, but if you are after some introductory kit then it is worth checking out. On offer includes sports bras, pants, tops and I saw one Jacket that Nic managed to pick up but unfortunately not in my size. I opted for a sports bra (£4) in a size 10 and although it fits rather nicely I don’t think I would wear it for running, instead opting to low intensity class work. However, for £4 it’s worth having when my others are in the wash. I also picked up a pack of 7 neon sports socks for just £2.50. Again handy for having to hand (or foot)! The picture only shows 5 pairs but you got 2 pairs of pink and grey.

As you can see I’m loving the neon colours at the moment. Apparently it’s in? I’m usually a black and grey type of girl but when it comes to working out I need bright colours to motivate me so regardless as to whether it’s the latest trend it’s getting worn!

So with all that shopping I decided I should get myself a couple of treats. The first of which was this Rodial GLAM BALM Hand for just £11 in TK Maxx (RRP £39!) I suffer with shockingly dry hands made worse by over washing and I find they are always pretty dry after I’ve been to the gym too. So I’m really hoping that this does the trick! It sinks in nicely and smells divine! I did however get home and check this out online to find that Rodial are offering it on their website for just £9.50 with free delivery, so if you want some get some now!

Finally I treated myself to some Panda Natural Raspberry Liquorice , Health & Herbs Peppermint Tea and some WheyHey Protein Ice Cream (to be blogged about later) from Holland & Barrett. I’ve heard liquorice has health benefits and is fairly low in calories so instead of reaching for the chocolate I shall be reaching for this… in moderation of course! Peppermint Tea however is my love!

Hopefully this makes up for the Afternoon Tea I had with a friend yesterday at Neaversons where I ate (half of) and drank this! Welcome to my life Parma Violet Fizz!

See, every wannabe fitty deserves a treat every once in a while!

The beauty of Illamasqua

Today we had a rare day without the kids and after much debate as to what to do we decided to spend the day in Leeds. We were visiting the food festival but I was quietly hoping to squeeze in a bit of shopping too!

This gave me the perfect opportunity to pop into the Illamasqua store to have a look at their product range. Having only dabbled in Illamasqua nail polishes that I have purchased online I really wanted to speak with an Illamasqua Make Up Artist to find out which products were best suited to my complexion.

Not only was I able to get some insight but I also got a full makeover! Jennifer was my make up artist today and was simply lovely, we had a similar taste in colours but with summer coming up I’m quite keen to lighten my eye shadow so it’s not too dark. My make up does not change from day to evening or through the seasons and I stick to the smoky eye with greys and blacks.

Jennifer started by applying Hydra Veil, a gel make up base which she allowed to settle on my skin whilst working on my eyes. Jennifer opted for the Complement Palette which includes the colours Slink, Focus, Queen of the Night and Forgiveness finishing off the eyes with the gel liner. I have used the MAC gel liner in the past and have more recently been using mineral powder to recreate this look but the Illamasqua gel liner will be part of my next purchase – 7 hours later and it is still going strong!

Jennifer matched my skin to Skin Base Foundation in shade 6. I honestly think this is the best foundation I have ever used and it matches perfectly to my skin tone, it also provides a nice matte coverage which is buildable but it feels so light on the skin. This product has been missing from half my life, but I am so happy to finally have discovered it!

We then moved on to cheeks applying Naked Rose on to the apples of the cheeks and using Aurora to contour. I have had so many mistakes with blusher in the past that I loved having someone match up my tones with the right blusher along with showing me how to make the most of my features using both a blusher and a highlighter.

Finally lips – I am not one for lips, again I just don’t know which colours to go for and after mistakes made in the past I just don’t buy lipsticks anymore. However, Jennifer introduced me to Climax which she mixed with the Opulent lipgloss to create something unique.

It was an amazing hour, I felt comfortable the whole time, the girls in the store truly are wonderful, I have never felt at such ease at a beauty counter before but they are so unbelievably friendly and are masters of their art! I for one will be back for more when my make up bag is due a refill!

A makeover costs £30 but is redeemable against products instore. I walked away with the foundation, complement palette and highlighter but have noted all the products used so I can add them to my birthday wishlist!

I love the finished result! So much so that I don’t want to take it off, but we all know we shouldn’t sleep in our make up so soon I will reluctantly be removing it 😦 I really am looking forward to using Illamasqua products on a regular basis as today my skin has felt great!
